SANOPSYS

SOUTHERN AFRICA NURSE, ORGANISATION, PATIENT AND SYSTEM OUTCOMES (SANOPSYS)

SANOPSys aspires to be an African focal point of leadership and governance in nursing science, by providing a synopsis of the quadruple aim of health care in South Africa, namely Nurse, Organisation, Patient and System outcomes.

The overall aim of the SYNOPSys research programme is to develop a South African Institute of Excellence (IoE) in scholarship and training related to leadership and governance in nursing science in the next 5 years, and then to advance to a South African
Development Community (SADC) IoE in scholarship and training related to leadership and governance in nursing science in the next 10-15 years.

The pursuit of quality health care for all South Africans is highly complex. It depends on an intricate balance between the quadruple aim of health care (Institute for Healthcare Improvement, 2017) being to:

  • Improve the patient's experience of care (Patient)
  • Reduce per capita cost of healthcare (Organisation)
  • Improve the health of populations (Systems)
  • Improve nurses' and multi-disciplinary team members’ wellbeing (Nurse)

Therefore, the SANOPSys research programme established a focus on Southern Africa Nurse (Healthcare aim 4), Organisational (Healthcare aim 2), Patient (Healthcare aim 1) and System (Healthcare Aim 3) outcomes.
