Transition Support of Nurse Graduates: Development, Implementation, and Evaluation of a Preceptorship Training Programme

AIMS

  • Develop and implement a preceptorship training programme for registered nurses in the North West province to enhance transition support of nurse graduates, and clinical teaching competence of experienced registered nurses through preceptorship.
  • To examine the effectiveness of preceptorship training in enhancing clinical skills of registered nurses and preceptorship support on clinical knowledge and skills development of nurse graduates.

 

 

OBJECTIVES


NEEDS ANALYSIS

  • To identify clinical teaching competence needs of registered nurses in the North West province health facilities.
  • To identify preceptorship support needs of nurse graduates in the North West province health facilities.

DESIGN

  • To review a preceptorship training programme curriculum based on the needs identified by registered nurses and nurse graduates to improve its effectiveness in enhancing clinical teaching competence of registered nurses and professional development of nurse graduates.

DEVELOPMENT

  • Evaluate a preceptorship training programme by nurse educators` experts.

IMPLEMENTATION & EVALUATION

  • To implement a preceptorship training programme for registered nurses in selected health facilities in the North West province.
  • To examine the effectiveness of preceptorship training programme in developing clinical teaching competence of experienced registered nurses.
