Pharmacen, Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Anél Petzer is a pharmacist and professor in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. She is interested in the design of enzyme inhibitors, prodrugs for the delivery of centrally acting drugs to the brain, cosmeceutics, and small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of snakebite envenoming. Her focus is on the design and development of novel therapeutic compounds, the synthesis thereof, enzymology and computer-aided drug design. Her research group has developed and established several enzyme assays, enabling international collaboration. She has published numerous papers in international peer-reviewed journals.
