Research internship experiences are provided to national and international students at the NWU Faculty of Health Sciences. Students registered with international research institutions are afforded opportunities ranging from 1 month to 12 months to experience research within the South African context.

The prerequisite is that the student must secure sufficient funding prior to requesting an official invitation for a research internship. Travel, accommodation and subsistence is for the account of the student or his/her institution. NWU entities will provide seating, internet access, library access, and student privileges during the official period when the intern visits the NWU. An official agreement between the sending institution and the NWU entity has to be made available to ensure anticipated internship outcomes can be met during the visit.
