Curwyn Mapaling is an associate professor in psychology, clinical psychologist, and researcher in Optentia’s Strengths-based Studies and Interventions sub-programme. With a PhD in Education, his work bridges mental health, wellbeing, and teaching—particularly within engineering education and higher education more broadly. As co-editor of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) in the South, he champions evidence-based approaches to student success. A Mandela Rhodes Scholar, Abe Bailey Fellow, and YALI alum, Curwyn blends clinical insight with educational innovation to create supportive, resilient learning environments. His research makes psychological knowledge accessible and practical for students, educators, and communities alike.
