The School of Nursing Science’s (SONS) vision is linked to the NWU, and strives to reach out to the full spectrum of South Africans through making a value driven difference by means of future orientated lifelong learning, research and enthusiastic community development.

Mission

The School of Nursing Science undertakes to identify and proactively respond to needs and opportunities, considering Batho-Pele principles and an ethos that embrace justice, humanity, equality, freedom and responsibility.

The School of Nursing Science strives to develop students scientifically, professionally and personally in nursing and health care towards experiencing fulfilment of their calling and providing service to their community. The Christian worldview is central to fulfilment of our calling and service delivery.

The School of Nursing Science wishes to continue the proud tradition of expertise, within the community context, based on scientific thinking, professional skills and positive attitude when facilitating health care and community development concerning relevant demands.

The School of Nursing Science strives to conduct high quality research within the North-West Province and the greater South Africa by means of focused projects, optimal utilisation of resources and exploration, expansion, facilitation and knowledge application towards improving healthcare service practice, health sciences education, healthcare service management and the community.

The School of Nursing Science’s management, functions within the NWU’s strategies and is attuned to employ transparency, participation and responsibility to maintain the positive equilibrium of SONS’s character, to actualise, develop and communicate this to the community and health services. The vision and mission of the North-West University is important to guide our academic practice, but being in the nursing profession we are also guided by a Professional body that has the responsibility to govern nursing and midwifery professionals and therefor protecting the public.

Your training as a BCur student in the School of Nursing Science at the NWU requires integration and compliance with the requirements of the NWU and the Professional body: the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
