The vision of HART is to be nationally and internationally recognised for excellence in cardiovascular research.

Mission

The team aims to achieve this by driving research excellence in scientific knowledge generation, translation and implementation to impact preventative and treatment strategies for hypertension through community and stakeholder engagement.

HART is the only unit in South Africa with a strong focus on preventative cardiovascular research, following a life course approach to understand the aetiology and evolution of hypertension and cardiovascular disease in South Africa.

The Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART) was established in 2008 within the Faculty of Health Sciences (Subject Group Physiology) at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University.
