For the past twelve years she is employed by the Karsten Group. She is responsible for the Socio-Economic Development of the JABELPA Trust where mental health is one of their priorities.
In her thesis, A social work intervention to enhance paternal involvement in the Northern Cape farming context, Jacomien accomplished a multi-phased research project with two groups of populations. The phenomenological research design and qualitative descriptive design were used in this study. This was executed in four different phases with Phases 1-3 informing the development of the intervention. In the final research phase, the intervention was developed, implemented in the Northern Cape farming context and refined with the input of experts in the field of parenting and/or attachment. The development of the intervention builds on current knowledge, offers intervention guidelines for social workers and other professionals, and creates opportunities for future research in the field of paternal involvement.

ERASMUS, Leandi
Leandi Erasmus, a social worker with 18 years practice experience, obtained her social work degree, a BA (Hons) in psychology, as well as her Master of Social Work degree all from the North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom campus. Her unwavering commitment to social justice emerged when she served as the Youth Commissioner in charge of Social Development in the North West province and later became the provincial director of the Democratic Alliance. During this time, she engaged in voluntary social work, established a crisis centre, and subsequently became the principal and youth development manager of Girls and Boys Town. She is currently working in private practice and resides with her Life partner, Heloise and two children, Martyn and Helena in Linden Johannesburg.
In her thesis, Contents for a transformative developmental social work curriculum, she developed a learning strategy for undergraduate social work training in South Africa, focusing on transformative developmental social work and promoting social justice among youth. The study consisted of four phases, where her empirical investigation entailed a multi-method, multi-phased research approach. The approach and subsequent results addressed the influence of Eurocentric perspectives in the current social work curricula, highlighting the need for an African-centred model. This contributed in establishing the vibrant scientific voice of Africa. This research plays a crucial role in empowering marginalized communities, fostering positive social change, and combating inequality. Leandi’s work also contextualized the social justice narrative and highlighted the inclusion in academic discourse. Apart from the advocacy established by this research it is also a gentle reminder on the true nature of social work as agents of change.

In her thesis, A training programme to enhance knowledge and skills of social work supervisors for a social development context, Nadia used the Design and Development model of intervention research to develop a training programme for social work supervisors within the South African development context. In semi-structured interviews, social workers and social work supervisors shared their perspectives on the training needs of social work supervisors working in a development context. Following the semi-structured interviews, the prototype of the training programme was discussed during focus group discussions with social work supervisors after which the final components to be included in the training programme were finalized. The study will increase the knowledge base on supervision in South Africa, the social work profession, as well as developmental social work and the developmental approach.
