PhD in Physiology
Prof Gafane-Matemane is appointed as an Associate Professor of Physiology at HART and holds a Y2-rating from the National Research Foundation. Her research focuses on kidney function, hypertension and other cardiovascular risk factors, particularly in populations of African ancestry. She is a Fellow of the International Society of Hypertension (ISHF), where she serves as a member of the ISH Training and Mentorship Committee and a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) HOPE Fellow. She is the secretary of the South African National Committee of the International Union for Physiological Sciences (IUPS) and serves on the Board of the Southern African Hypertension Society and one of Executive Directors for the Childhood Hypertension Consortium of South Africa (CHCSA). Prof Gafane-Matemane is actively involved in community engagement activities covering health, education and mentorship.
