Prof Wayne Smith is an associate professor within the Hypertension in Africa Research Team at the North-West University and the Sub-theme Leader: Discovery science. He holds a Y-2 rating from the National Research Foundation and is the principal investigator of the EndoAfrica-NWU study. He is a member and past council member of the Physiological Society of Southern Africa and the South African Society for Cardiovascular Research as well as a member of the European Society for Microcirculation. He has a background in experimental cardiovascular physiology. His broad research interest is in the field of vascular health with a specific interest in retinal microvasculature as a means of investigating subclinical microvascular compromise (cause and consequence). He also has an interest in metabolic contributions to vascular health.
