Clinical Pharmacy

What is Clinical Pharmacy?

The Clinical Pharmacy subject group plays a vital role in both teaching and research, with a strong focus on the clinical application of pharmacy within healthcare systems. Clinical Pharmacy integrates clinical expertise with pharmaceutical science to optimise patient care through a deep understanding of disease processes and pharmacotherapy.

Our subject area combines theoretical knowledge with experiential learning, equipping students with the skills required for patient-centred practice.

Key areas of focus include:

  1. Clinical Anatomy — Understanding the structure and function of the human body
  2. Pathology — Understanding disease processes and how they affect the body
  3. Biochemistry — Examining the biochemical mechanisms underlying health and disease
  4. Health Sciences — Understanding healthcare systems and principles of patient care
  5. Clinical Pharmacy — Applying pharmaceutical knowledge to optimise therapy and medication management, ensuring patient-centred, individualised pharmaceutical care plans
  6. Advanced Primary Care Drug Therapy — Managing complex and chronic conditions at primary healthcare level

Grounded in patient advocacy, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making, our graduates are well prepared to contribute meaningfully within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. They play a vital role in promoting rational medicine use, improving health outcomes, and advancing health, wellness, and disease prevention through evidence-based pharmacy practice.
