The purpose of the qualification is to develop candidates as independent young researchers within the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Furthermore, and by way of increased research competence, to provide candidates with relevant and advanced knowledge, skills, and competences for application in the pharmaceutical and related fields such as the health sector and bio-tech fields. During completion of this degree, students will obtain professional and research competence in aspects of product development, formulation, and evaluation, to be applied in different practice settings. Successful completion of the qualification will therefore ensure provision of highly skilled professional workers within the field of new product development that has been identified by Government and Industry as an important strategic goal for progress in job creation.

Animal Handling course
Introductory Short Course on Animal Handling and the Principles of Research on Animals
The Veterinary and Para-Veterinary Professions Act no. 19 of 1982 states clearly that working on a live animal should be the work of a veterinary or para-veterinary professional. Therefore, students and researchers that will be doing research on animals have to complete this course. Successful completion of this Short Learning Programme will provide participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding of the principles used in scientific research involving laboratory animals and is in full accordance with Act 19 of 1982 of the Veterinary and Para-Veterinary Professions Act
